Rhode Island clinical psych nurse overprescribed stimulants; surrenders prescribing licenses

May 23, 2012

PROVIDENCE, R.I.—A Rhode Island psychiatric and mental health nurse has agreed to surrender licenses that allowed her to prescribe medications to patients.

An order released Monday by health officials says Lisa Marenaro prescribed doses of stimulants that exceeded acceptable standards of practice.

A document describing the allegations against Marenaro also says she taped patient prescriptions to the outside door of her office last month without securing them. The document says anyone could have accessed the prescriptions and filled them.

Marenaro also agreed not to reapply for a psychiatric clinical nurse specialist license for at least two years. She is not required to relinquish her registered nurse license.

A message was left for Marenaro on Monday.
