Indiana board reprimands psychologist Pamela Christy

December 18, 2012

On September 18, 2012, the Indiana State Psychological Board issued a letter of reprimand on Pamela Christy, Ph.D. for failure to turn over the treatment records of two minor patients to their father.

Christy had treated the father and his two daughters and their mother, following the divorce of the parents.

Between December 2009 and October 2010, Christy provided individual, joint and family therapy to the family.

In late November 2010, the father requested Christy release his daughters’ mental health records.

Christy denied the request, citing that there was no provision in the law which required her to do so. However, the Board pointed out that Indiana Code § 16-39-2-9(b)(1) states that “a custodial parent and a noncustodial parent…have equal access to the child’s mental health records unless a court has issued and order that limits the noncustodial parent’s access….”
