Washington psychologist David Celio placed under supervision by state board

March 16, 2009

The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) placed psychologist David L. Celio on three years practice supervision with a state Psychology Board-approved supervisor and must submit to random chart audits for at least five years.  This disciplinary action was taken on Celio due to his November 2006 conviction for felony health care fraud in the state of Washington.  Celio was found, among other things, to have billed TRICARE (a federal health care program for families of active military members and reservists) for therapy sessions with patients that never took place.  On March 28, 2007 he agreed to settle civil charges against him for the false bills by paying the United States $510,264.  He was sentenced in April 2007 to 12 months and one day prison.
