State to monitor psychiatrist Daniel Rousch for one year

On January 8, 2013, the Texas Medical Board ordered psychiatrist Daniel E. Rousch placed on practice monitoring for 12 consecutive monitoring cycles. According to the Board's report, among other things, Rousch diagnosed a patient with bipolar disorder but did not document the medical justification for the diagnosis; prescribed psychotropic drug to two minor patients off label, according to age and symptoms and eh prescribed psychtropic drugs to six minor patients in doses in excess of adult doses (some were given at two times the recommended adult dosage). In addition to practice monitoring, he was required to pay a $3,000 penalty and obtain 44 hours of additional continuing education in various practice aspects.
