Extradition of psychiatrist who fled country to avoid prosecution is stayed

September 21, 2017

Psychiatrist Omesh Chandra Kashyap, 85, who was charged in four cases of molestation and sexual assault in Canada, allegedly fled the country in 1991 and went back to his homeland of India to thwart prosecution.

Kashyap claims he was framed.

Since 2003, Canada has been trying to get Kashyap extradited. Currently, India has temporarily stayed an extradition because of a petition submitted by Kashyap to the Central Government.
