Former child psychiatrist allegedly told teenaged patient that sex helps sleeplessness

November 14, 2017

Ian Stuart McAlpine, former child psychiatrist in Australia, is accused of sexually assaulting two teenage patients between 1988 and 1990, and has been charged with 13 counts of indecent assault and five of sexual penetration without consent.  His trial continued on Tuesday with one of his former patients testifying that he told her that "sex helps" sleeplessness.  She was 16 at the time.

The patient also testified that McAlpine gave her a teddy bear on her 17th birthday about three weeks after the abuse progressed beyond kisses.

In 1997, McAlpine was convicted of indecently assaulting a 15-year-old patient.
