UK Psychiatrist Suspended for Assaulting a Patient

June 8, 2017

On May 26, 2017, the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) suspended UK psychiatrist Temitope Oluwagbemisola Ademola’s license for six months and sentenced her to 200 hours of unpaid work.  In November 2015, she was convicted of assaulting a patient by kicking her on the body and covering her mouth to stop her breathing.  Ademola also threatened to punch and kick the patient, who had a learning disability and impaired cognitive functions.

Her defense agent argued that Ademola said she only threatened to punch or kick the patient if the patient punched or kicked her.  However, the MPTS still ruled that it was “unacceptable” conduct.
