Ohio Medical Board Reprimands Psychiatrist Pradeep Mathur for Unlawful Prescribing

On January 9, 2019, the State Medical Board of Ohio issued reprimanded psychiatrist Pradeep Mathur.

According to the Board’s Consent Order, Dr. Mathur admitted that during 2016 and 2017, one of his family members was being prescribed the controlled substance Armodafinil by another practitioner. He also admitted that on many occasions during this same time period, he supplemented the dosage of Armodafinil being taken by this family member by prescribing and filling prescriptions for the drug written in the names of other family members related to Dr. Mathur. Further, he stated that his rationale for these false prescriptions was that he felt the dosage the other practitioner was prescribing to his family member (who was not his patient) was too low, based on his observation. He lastly admitted that he had been contacted by law enforcement regarding this conduct.

Sixteen percent of convictions of psychiatrists and psychologist are for drug-related violations.
