Federal Agents Raid Office of Alabama Psychiatrist John Christopher Strunk

April 29, 2019

Drug Enforcement Agency and other federal agents raided the office of Dothan psychiatrist Dr. John Christopher Strunk Wednesday morning, but officials have not given a reason for the probe.

The Dothan Eagle has contacted the DEA’s Atlanta division for comment, but one was not immediately provided. Both the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG) and U.S. Attorney General’s Office confirmed agents executed a search warrant at the location but declined further comment.

About 20 federal agents with various federal entities, including the HHS-OIG, were seen outside of Strunk’s office located at the intersection of Regency Court and Belmont Street. Strunk operates a private practice called Wiregrass Wellness Center at the location but holds various other roles with other local medical facilities, according to multiple websites.

The Donalsonville (Georgia) Hospital website lists Strunk as its behavioral health unit director, while he is also listed as a psychiatrist for Wiregrass Medical Center in Geneva. The Donalsonville Hospital website states Strunk is also Wiregrass Medical Center’s Senior Care Unit director.

The National Plan and Provider Enumeration System, which the HHS uses to identify doctors, lists Strunk’s Dothan office as his primary practice location, with other locations in Opp, Geneva, Troy, Donalsonville, and the Florida municipalities of Marianna and Bristol.

Strunk graduated from the University of Tennessee, completed his internship at University of Colorado-Denver, and finished his residency at Creighton University.

Wiregrass Wellness Center opened in Dothan in 2007, according to the clinic’s website.
