Feds Raid Office of Massachusetts Psychiatrist Lee S. Altman; Investigation of Prescribing Practices

July 23, 2019

STOUGHTON, MA — Federal drug agents raided the office of a Stoughton psychiatrist Wednesday as part of an investigation into his prescription writing practices.

Sources tell 5 Investigates at The Enterprise’s news partner, WCVB-TV, that the U.S. Drug Enforcement Enforcement Administration is looking into Dr. Lee Altman’s prescription practices, possible over-prescribing and the way he does business.

Dr. Altman is a psychiatrist who has been licensed to practice in Massachusetts since 1995.

He’s never been disciplined by the state medical board. According to records obtained by 5 Investigates, he’s only had two complaints filed against him since 2008.

In a 2015 complaint, the mother of one of his patients called him “unethical” and said he gave her son multiple prescriptions and accused him of making money from people struggling with addiction and helping to “send them to their graves.”

In a response to that complaint, Dr. Altman told the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine that her allegations could not be farther from the truth and said the woman’s son was showing signs that he was abusing his medications.

The state medical board told 5 Investigates on Wednesday that it had currently taken no action against Dr. Altman’s license.

Altman declined to comment.
