United Kingdom strikes psychiatrist Kelvin Chatoor from medical register

May 31, 2007

In May 2007, the UK General Medical Council removed psychiatrist Kelvin Chatoor from the medical register (equivalent to having one's license revoked) for lying about his qualifications.  Dr. Chatoor falsely stated, among other things, that he possessed a Bachelor of Science degree with first class honors; that he was a member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and that he trained as a psychiatrist in Australia when in truth he'd only trained as a radiologist.  During his time working on false credentials Dr. Chatoor was involved in the involuntary commitment of 23 patients.1
