Ohio Psychology Board Requires Biennial Criminal Records Checks on Dr. Joshua Shuman for Duration of Licensure

April 5, 2018

According to the website of the Ohio Professional Licensure System, as of April 5, 2018, psychologist Joshua Shuman is required to have criminal records checks every two years for as long as he has an active license to practice.

Dr. Shuman’s license was suspended indefinitely on December 5, 2014 due to having been convicted of a felony or any offense involving moral turpitude.

The Board required him to undergo a multidisciplinary evaluation to be conducted by The Program for Professionals (a mental health program intended for the rehabilitation of medical/psychological professionals).

Though Dr. Shuman’s conviction has been expunged by the Municipal Court of Kettering, Ohio, the Dayton Daily News reported on January 15, 2014 that Shuman was arrested and charged with indecent exposure: “Police said Shuman would expose himself to shoppers at Cross Pointe Shopping Center who he convinced to walk with him to his car.”

The Board restored Shuman’s license in April 2018 on condition of his adherence to terms which include following any treatment recommendations forwarded to the Board by the Program for Professionals. At that time, Dr. Shuman was required to demonstrate to the Board that circumstances warrant his return to active licensure, including compliance with any recommendations made by the Program for Professionals and compliance with any court-ordered treatment and/or probation requirements.
