"Married to Medicine" Psychiatrist Colin Dias Persuaded Teen Patient To Masturbate during Therapy Session

September 26, 2023

On October 28, 2022, the Medical Board of California filed a formal accusations against Agoura Hills, CA psychiatrist Colin Dias for sexual misconduct and unprofessional conduct.

Beginning in September 2013, Patient 1, who was at that time 17 years old, began seeing Dias for treatment of various diagnoses she’d received related to reported childhood sexual abuse. When Dias was alone with the patient during her sessions, Dias asked her details relating to her sexual life, including questioning her about her fantasies during masturbation.

On March 17, 2014, less than one month after she turned 18, the patient attended a therapy session at Dias’ office. They met privately while the patient’s mother waited outside the office. During the session, Dias asked the patient questions of a sexual nature. Patient 1 revealed that she fantasized about Dias. Dias asked the patient to open her legs and masturbate. She did so.

According to the details of the Board’s accusation, Dias remained at this desk and did not expose himself to Patient 1. However, she heard him unzip his pants, saw him clean himself with a tissue, and then throw the tissue in the trash, and she heard him re-zip his pants.

On that same date, Patient 1 attended a session with a Dr. D.B. at her home. Patient 1 disclosed to Dr. D.B. the details of her previous visit with Dias.

Additionally, Dias is subject to discipline and fines by the Board for unprofessional conduct in that he failed to report a settlement. On or around April 2017, Dias entered into a settlement agreement of a civil complaint containing allegations relating to his care of Patient 1, including the allegations of sexual misconduct. The amount of the settlement exceeded the $30,000 reporting limits and a report of a settlement to the Board was required. However, Dias provided no such report.
