N. Carolina School Psychologist Charles Lee Chandler III Arrested for Drugs, Trespassing

November 15, 2023

A former Yadkin County School staff member was arrested Friday and is expected in court Wednesday.

Charles Lee Chandler III is facing charges of trespassing, violation of a court order, as well as multiple drug charges.

Chandler was employed with Yadkin County Schools as a school psychologist, said Boomer Kennedy, director of secondary schools and CTE for the district.

Kennedy said that Chandler was “suspended with pay on March 13, 2023 and that suspension was lifted on May 23, 2023. He was again suspended with pay on August 29, 2023. That suspension was changed to a suspension without pay on September 12, 2023. He submitted his resignation to Yadkin County Schools on September 28, 2023 and the School Board accepted his resignation on October 2, 2023.”

Kennedy said that Chandler’s suspensions were related to personnel issues not interactions with students.

According to Det. M. Norman, of the Yadkinville Police Department, Chandler was charged with second degree trespassing on Sept. 20 after returning to the school system’s central office.

Kennedy said it is standard practice that the school system mandates that employees who are on suspension without pay are not allowed on any school property. He did add that Chandler’s visit to the central office which violated that restriction was not for any threatening purposes towards the school system.

Chandler was arrested on Nov. 3 for violation of a court order.

Chandler is also facing numerous drug charges. According to court documents, Chandler was charged on Sept. 8 with two felony counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell, deliver Schedule I controlled substances, felony trafficking in LSD, felony maintaining a vehicle/dwelling for controlled substances and two misdemeanor marijuana-related charges. According to the arrest warrant, Chandler was in possession of LSD, mushrooms and marijuana. A second arrest warrant for Chandler, dated Sept. 21, lists two felony counts possession of Schedule I controlled substances and two misdemeanor marijuana charges.
