Brattleboro Retreat: Former Employee Charged with Felony Sexual Assault of Patient

Sidney Rivers Jr., a former caregiver at Brattleboro Retreat, Vermont’s largest inpatient psychiatric hospital, founded in 1834, was arrested and arraigned in January 2026 on one count of felony sexual assault and two counts of felony caregiver sexual abuse of a vulnerable adult, stemming from allegations that he sexually assaulted a patient in September 2024 while employed at the psychiatric hospital.
