December 30, 2025
On July 7, 2025, the Medical Board of California placed the license of San Dimas psychiatrist Jia Mao on probation for three years based on finding that Mao engaged in dishonest and/or corrupt acts, and was arrested and charged with a felony.
Background:
On January 18, 2023, a one-count felony complaint was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court which charged Mao with first degree burglary for unlawfully entering her ex-boyfriend’s apartment on January 13, 2023.
The ex-boyfriend reported to Pasadena Police that he believed Mao, his ex-girlfriend, had entered his apartment without permission and stole property from his apartment. She was identified as loading boxes into a grey sedan. Mao also pulled the fire alarm “because he was not answering his phone.”
On January 14, 2023, Pasadena Police officers confronted Mao, and she admitted to committing the burglary and activating the fire alarm. The police arrested Mao for sending a false fire alarm, committing a residential burglary, and being in receipt of stolen property.
On January 23, 2023, Mao left a strange voicemail on a Claremont City Council member’s phone account in which she, among other things, threatened to sue the City Council member if the member did not call her back.
On the same day, Mao was transported to Kaiser Permanente Emergency Department after she created a disturbance which frightened her former employer. She was placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold for further evaluation and treatment and was discharged on February 2, 2023.
On February 20, 2023, Mao left a disturbing email on the phone of a female, J.H., which contained threatening comments towards a Claremont City Council member and the City Council.
On February 20, 2023, Mao was again admitted to an inpatient mental facility on an involuntary hold for evaluation and treatment after she caused a disturbance in her community. She was discharged on March 3, 2023.
After her discharge, she was taken into custody and transported to Claremont Police Department, where she was booked and served with a Temporary Restraining Order, relating to the voicemails sent on January 23 and February 18, 2023.
On March 15, 2023, a two-count misdemeanor complaint was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court which charge Mao with making annoying telephone calls, in violation of the Penal Code.
