South Carolina Psychiatric Hospital Employee Arrested for Abuse of Vulnerable Adult

Gregory Marcel Higgins, a 44-year-old former custody officer at Wellpath Recovery Solutions — a psychiatric hospital contracted by the South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities — was charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult after an investigation found he placed a patient in a chokehold and walked him down a hallway in June 2025. Higgins was arrested on February 18, 2026.
