Georgia Psychiatrist David L. Klein Reprimanded; Compared Patient Report of Sexual Assault to "a Car Accident"

March 9, 2026

On October 2, 2025, the Georgia Composite Medical Board has issued a public reprimand and disciplinary order against psychiatrist David Lee Klein, M.D., following a complaint related to his treatment of a patient seeking trauma-related psychiatric care.

The Board’s Public Consent Order, in which Klein agreed to disciplinary terms after the board reviewed allegations regarding his conduct during a patient evaluation and his handling of medical records, contains the following Findings of Fact:

  • On or about April 11, 2023, a patient (“M.P.”) had an initial assessment with Klein, wherein she sought psychiatry services as a victim of trauma. Specifically, M.P. disclosed she had, among other traumas, experienced a sexual assault. Klein compared M.P.’s trauma to "a car accident.”
  • After some delay, Klein sent a response letter to the Board that was notarized on or about November I8, 2024. Klein’s signature on M.P.'s records indicated he signed the records on November 11, 2024.

Under the Board’s order, Klein’s conduct constituted sufficient grounds for discipline under provisions of Georgia law governing the practice of medicine.

As part of the resolution, Klein agreed to several sanctions imposed by the Georgia Composite Medical Board:

  • A $3,000 fine, payable within 90 days of the docket date.
  • Continuing medical education requirements, including:

                - 5 hours in recordkeeping

                - 5 hours in medical ethics

                - 10 hours in trauma-informed counseling

The consent order also specifies that the disciplinary action and its dissemination serve as a public reprimand of Klein. Failure to comply with the terms of the order, or with applicable medical practice laws and board regulations, could lead to additional sanctions, including possible license revocation.

Klein acknowledged that the consent order becomes effective only after approval and docketing by the Georgia Composite Medical Board and that the order constitutes a public record of disciplinary action.
