Washington Suspends License of Psychiatrist Abby Fredrickson following Murder-Related Conviction and Firearm Charges
June 9, 2026
OLYMPIA, Washington — The Washington Medical Commission has indefinitely suspended the medical license of psychiatrist Abby N. Fredrickson, M.D., after determining that she engaged in unprofessional conduct and failed to respond to disciplinary charges.
According to a final order issued in May 2026, Dr. Fredrickson was originally licensed to practice medicine in Washington in October 2023. At the time of the order, she was already under suspension in multiple states.
The disciplinary action stemmed from a series of criminal and regulatory developments beginning in 2025. In February 2025, authorities in Minnesota stopped Fredrickson for a traffic violation and charged her with unlawfully carrying a firearm in a public place without a permit. Prosecutors alleged the offense constituted a felony because it was a subsequent violation.
Two months later, in April 2025, Minnesota authorities arrested Fredrickson and charged her with aiding an offender in connection with a second-degree murder investigation.
Separate concerns also arose regarding her fitness to practice medicine. In May 2025, the Colorado Medical Board ordered her to undergo an examination through the Colorado Physician Health Program. According to the Washington order, she failed to comply with that directive, leading Colorado regulators to suspend her medical license in August 2025.
Other states subsequently took reciprocal action. Illinois temporarily suspended her license in September 2025 based on the Minnesota criminal charges and Colorado's suspension order. Maryland followed with its own suspension agreement in October 2025.
Court records cited by the Washington Medical Commission show that Fredrickson later entered guilty pleas in Minnesota. On October 16, 2025, she pleaded guilty to aiding an offender as an accomplice after the fact to first-degree murder. Less than two weeks later, she pleaded guilty to the felony firearm charge.
The Washington Medical Commission filed formal charges against Fredrickson in February 2026, alleging violations of the state's Uniform Disciplinary Act. The agency served the complaint and informed her of her right to respond, but officials reported that no answer was received by the deadline.
Because she failed to contest the allegations, a health law judge entered a default order. The commission concluded that sufficient grounds existed for disciplinary action and ordered that Fredrickson's Washington physician license be indefinitely suspended.
Under the order, she must surrender her licenses to the commission and may seek reinstatement in the future through a formal petition process. The disciplinary action will be reported to the National Practitioner Data Bank and other professional reporting systems.
